The 13 Colonies

Connecticut

Connecticut was founded in 1636 by Thomas Hooker.  Hooker founded Connecticut because he thought that Massachusetts was too strict for him.  He and other followers who all decided to become lenient Protestant instead of all Protestant led the way to a new opportunity.  Most of the people who came didn't have to be opposers to Massachusetts, but they could be any ordinary citizen in search of a good place to live.  The people who lived there could only vote, too, in the government, if they were white men who owned property.  These people had town meetings to discuss the changes in the colony.  Most of the people living there were all influenced by the sudden changes in decision on perspectives of living in different colonies.

Rhode Island

In 1636, Rhode Island was founded by Roger Williams.  He and others were seeking religious freedom, and soon moved to another colony in search of a land with different ideas and rules.  After they got there, they ran a government by the Church (only the white males).  Many people who moved their were also seeking, the same goals, passing on these qualities to those who moved even more to other areas.  Many people were then inspired to move there, although no certain type were required.

Massachusetts

Massachusetts was founded in 1620 by the pilgrims and Puritans.  They moved away from England because of religious persecution and the fact that they were unhappy with the king.  They moved to the New World, more specifically, Massachusetts because they were seeking a place to have more freedom in.  On their way here, William Bradford wrote the Mayflower Compact.  He wrote this in order to show that all people moving there and those who might in the future that it was created to maintain a civil body politic for the good of the colony in the name of God and the king.  After they arrived here, their government did consist of a general court and town meetings.

New Hampshire

New Hampshire was founded by John Weelwright in 1683 because the colonists needed a place to fish.  They had wanted to move for better surroundings and environments.  Another reason was because of the founder himself.  John Wheelwright was cousin of Anne Hutchinson from Rhode Island and fled away from that colony when his try to defend his cousin failed in court.  Soon, he fled to New Hampshire and sought a new life where no further persecution could take place, and where others facing the same dilemmas could do the same.  After all these unique types of people people that didn't have to have a certain  residency requirement arrived, they would face a government of constitutional monarchy.
